Rainfall that started yesterday has claimed eight lives in different mishaps until Saturday while after over 400 power feeders tripped last night, supply to some of the areas is yet to be restored.
According to Director General Met, Ghulam Rasool, upto 56 millimetre rain was recorded in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area this morning.
Met Office 40 mm rain was recorded in Shahrah-e-Faisal and 30 mm in Sadar.
The heavy to light rain spell, that started Friday evening, is likely to continue intermittently till Saturday night, the Met Office said.
Report said the downpour, besides turning the weather pleasant, crippled life in the city and inundating various areas. Several neighbourhoods were under waist-deep water.
The tripping of 600 K-Electric feeders left 45 percent of city areas without power adding to miseries of citizens.
In rain-related incidents, reports said, at least 10 people lost their lives due to electrocution and fall of walls.
The disconnection of power supply to different pumping stations affected water supply to the city.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah visited different areas along with DCOs and high officials, directing authorities to ensure draining out of stagnant rainwater.
