Murad seeks citizens’ coop for restoring Karachi as ‘city of lights’

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that he is committed to restoring Karachi as city of lights but all this will be possible when every citizen, irrespective of their socio-political or religious affiliation, will come over and play their due role. “Yes, I need your help. Karachi is our home and it is our collective responsibility to keep home neat and clean.”

The chief minister said this while talking to media after taking a round of the city accompanied by Karachi Commissioner Aijaz Khan.

He said he was well aware of the issues of this city because “I was born here. I have ridden my bike on the roads of Karachi and have travelled in passenger buses,” he said.

The chief minister said he was quite worried about the people because of continuous downpour for the last night. “I was in touch with the commissioner and the city administrator to drain out rain water from the roads and low-lying areas. I also talked to the KE MD to restore electricity to the areas where feeders were tripped,” he said. Again in the morning he was on the roads as was the workers of the local bodies, he added.

He directed the commissioner and administrator to activate all the deputy commissioners and DMC administrators to be in the field along with their workers. “I want to see your workers in the field and also activate your complaints cells,” he directed. Murad Ali Shah also sought report from other district administrations about rainfall in their areas and its impact.

Bilawal expresses grief over rain-related deaths:

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed grief over the deaths in rain-related incidents including electrocutions by fallen electricity wires in Sindh.

In a statement issued on Saturday, he asked the Sindh cabinet and the elected representatives to remain alert in their respective areas during monsoon.

The PPP chairman also asked the authorities concerned to ensure that rain water was drained out within shortest possible time.

He was of the view that the federal authorities should also make certain that its transmission electricity lines were maintained properly and secure the same from playing havoc during rains.

Bilawal pointed out that unannounced load shedding of long durations during rainy season were making the life of people miserable.

He claimed that the K-Electric’s inefficiency plunged almost entire Karachi into darkness while Hyderabad and Sukkur electricity supplies inflicted worst conditions in their areas.

He said losses in rain-related incidents could be averted or minimised through proper planning and precautionary measures.
