LWMC issues 360 challans to citizens over violation

Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has started issuing challans to citizens involved in violating Punjab Local Government (Amended) Act 2016 particularly spreading litter and garbage at public places and not abiding by company’s standard instructions regarding disposal of solid waste across the city.

The enforcement team of LWMC has penalised as many as 360 violators by issuing challans worth rupees 301000.These 360 challan tickets have been issued within 10 days after LWMC started imposing fine under Punjab Local Government (Amended) Act 2016 last month. A special enforcement wing has been established which comprises 6 enforcement inspectors who respond over observations and complaints registered by citizens or any source.

“Imposition of fine to citizens violating standard instructions for disposal of waste will help prevent citizens littering”, said Managing Director Bilal Mustafa Syed. There is dire need on part of around 10 million residents of the city to play their role by developing habit of using containers and bins as 10,000 sanitary workers are already helping them get rid of 5600 ton of filth they produce on daily basis, he further said.

MD LWMC visited China Scheme, Rasheed Pura and some other northern localities of Lahore that are considered as problematic areas in term of sanitation issues.

Bilal Mustafa along with project coordinator Albayrak, General Manager Albayrak Murad, Senior Manager Operations LWMC Suhail Malik and other field staff met Union Council chairmen and local residents to listen to their concerns.

He directed Turkish companies to strategically solve the issue of heap piles in open plots and work out on covering low-lying open points which are being used for dumping of waste.  He further directed to field officers to contact WASA and district departments help resolve issues related to sewerage water and animal dung.
