178 corruption scams unearthed during present govt tenure: law ministry

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has taken notice of many cases and unearthed 178 corruption scams during the tenure of the present government.

Of the total scams, the seven regional bureaus of NAB have conducted 68 inquiries, 55 investigations, and prepared 55 references for courts during the period.

A data issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Friday showed that cases of Rs 100 million and above are considered as major scams related to fields including housing societies, modarba, overpricing of drugs and misuse of powers, and loss to national exchequer.

Regional bureau-wise details of said major scams and their present position have shown that the Rawalpindi Bureau unearthed a total of 38 scams, out of which 21 were inquiries, six were investigations and 11 were references.

The status of Lahore Bureau was 41 scams, out of which nine were inquiries, 15 investigations and 17 references.

Peshawar unearthed 38 scams with six inquiries, 16 investigations and 16 references.

Karachi Bureau unearthed 23 scams with 10 inquiries, seven investigations and six references.

Quetta Bureau unearthed 11 scams with two inquiries, seven investigations and two references.

Sukkur Bureau unearthed 21 scams, out of which 18 were inquiries, three investigations and no reference was prepared.

The status of Multan Bureau was six scams, out of which two were inquiries, one investigation and three references.
