The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the case of irregularities in the party funds of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) received from abroad till August 17 due to the non-appearance of PTI’s counsel.

A five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan resumed hearing of the case, filed by PTI’s former information secretary Akbar S Babar, who had alleged corruption and violation of laws in collection of donations from overseas Pakistanis and managing party funds for the PTI.

During the course of the hearing, counsel for Akbar Babar apprised the bench that the commission should take action against the respondents as their counsel was continuously avoiding his appearance in the case.

However, the bench adjourned the matter till August 17. In an earlier hearing, the ECP has summoned details of foreign funding from the PTI.
