The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has appealed to the Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Ansar Aziz to take notice of the poor quality repair of Islamabad Dry Port main double road as it is creating a lot of dust pollution in I-9 and I-10 industrial areas and creating hurdles in the growth of business activities.
ICCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh, ICCI Senior Vice President Sheikh Pervez Ahmed, ICCI Vice President Sheikh Abdul Waheed said that Islamabad Dry Port is playing an important role in promoting export/import activities in this region and it should have been developed at par with international standards. However, its repair by the CDA was quite substandard as it has not been properly carpeted as yet due to which the road was spreading a lot of dust pollution in I-9 and I-10 areas creating health hazards for the industrialists, road users and the residents of its surrounding areas.
They said the main double road was providing access to the dry port and heavy duty vehicles and big containers were plying on this road almost daily to pick and drop commercial consignments from Islamabad Dry Port. However, on account of its substandard repair work, the vehicles plying on this road were sending off clouds of dust in the air due to which pedestrians, motorcyclists, and people living in the vicinity of this road were inhaling the dust.
They stressed that Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) and CDA should pay immediate attention to this important road and arrange its urgent carpeting to save the people from dust pollution and to facilitate the smooth promotion of business activities.
