The flight operation at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) on Thursday was restored after a pause of about six hours.
During the closure of the airport, between 1100 hours to 1600 hours, four flights were diverted to other airports of the country.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson, “Some portion of the runway was closed for necessary repair and maintenance.”
“All the airlines operating to and from BBIA were accordingly intimated through ‘NORTAM’ regarding the closure,” the spokesperson said, adding that CAA regretted the inconvenience caused to the passengers on this account.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the airlines had failed to be cognizant of the situation due to which a large number of passengers and their relatives and friends there to receive them faced lots of hardship.
The flights which were diverted from BBIA included two flights from Saudi Arabia while another from Gilgit-Baltistan. One of these flights was of Saudi Airlines, whereas two others were of PIA.
