The fallout of climate change, such as the increasing number of unusual and extreme weather conditions and glacial melt, is already in evidence across Pakistan. Since deforestation is one of the major causes behind all this therefore, the news that Punjab government will utilise all its resources to achieve the target of planting 9 million saplings during the current monsoon season is commendable. However, the government alone cannot achieve this target without community participation. Therefore, the public at large must also join hands with the government in order to meet plantation targets. As the weather is becoming ever more erratic with each passing day, increasing the risks of floods and torrential rains therefore, it is hoped that the government will remain firm and determined to cope with climate change induced disasters and plant more and more trees for a greener Pakistan.

Tree plantation will certainly help the environment but by far the major cause is industrial activity and thermal power generation, we have to go for hydel power in a big way, clean power from Kalabagh dam will help to shut down half the thermal power plants, if Bhasha dam in 15 years is acceptable why not Kalabagh dam in 5 years?
