The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday sought solid evidence from all four political parties that have submitted references seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Arguments presented by the lawyers of the four political parties –  Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami Muslim League (AML) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) –  were heard during the first hearing of the applications. The lawyers adopted the stance that PM Nawaz concealed his assets and was therefore not worthy of his office according to Articles 62 and 63.

The PAT lawyer brought up the discussion relating to the Model Town incident to which the ECP members remarked that no one can be disqualified until the trial concludes. The Commission then postponed the hearing of the case till August 17.

Despite the hearing of the applications that lasted for several hours, it could not be established whether the applications were fit to be heard at the forum of ECP or not.
