Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given an approval for the construction of two new graveyards on Dhook Munshi Road near Chaklala and Adiala Road.

Sources said that the approval has been given after the chief minister took notice of the shortage of graveyards in the Rawalpindi city.

The district administration had identified two locations for the graveyards.

The sources said the new graveyards will be constructed on modern lines where data of all buried men, women and children will be computerised to help relatives of the buried even after 100 years of burial.

The sources said that a special bus will also be hired for transporting bodies while a special force will be set up to maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the new graveyards.

Pirwadhai graveyard, Eid Gah graveyard, Kari Road graveyard, Dhook Khabba graveyard, Dhook Illahi Baksh graveyard and Dheeri Hasanabad graveyard have almost been filled to the brim and some of their lands have been encroached upon and illegal commercial and residential buildings have been constructed on these graveyards.
