Chitral school teacher suspended for beating students

A private school teacher who was caught beating minor students for coming to school late has been suspended after a video went viral on social media.

The school is located in the Drosh area of Chitral district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Elementary and Secondary Education (E&SE) also formed a two-member committee to conduct an inquiry into the use of corporal punishment by the teacher.

The 96 seconds clip recorded through mobile, the school teacher, who was later identified as Inam, was torturing students aged between eight and 10 years.

Students continued to cry and tried run away but the teacher did not stop.

Mohammad Yousaf, the assistant commissioner of Chitral, told the TV channel that the district administration has taken notice of the incident.

“We have not received any complaint from parents of the students but have taken notice after coming across a recorded video clip on social media,” he said.

“I have asked the DSP and SHO of Drosh police station to register an FIR against the teacher under the Child Protection Act and arrest the teacher,” Yousaf said.

Earlier, when the video emerged, the E&SE director took notice of the incident and issued a notification in which the District Education Officer (male) for Chitral directed to immediately suspend the teacher and submit a report.

Further, the inquiry committee comprising DEO Chitral Hanifullah and principal of GCMHS Chitral Kamalud Din will identify the head of the institution where the incident took place and fix responsibility.
