Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump opened August by moving from “Crooked Hillary” to “the devil”, with three months left for the elections.
Speaking in Pennsylvania on Monday, the billionaire real estate mogul derided Bernie Sanders’ capitulation in the Democratic primary race and Sanders’ decision to support Clinton.
Of Sanders he said, “He made a deal with the devil. She’s the devil.”
Trump in recent days has taken to categorising the Clinton-Sanders understanding as a “deal with the devil” but this was the first time that he went so far as to specifically equate Clinton with Lucifer.
Trump’s supporters packed a Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, high school gymnasium and thousands more were left outside or forced to watch in a spillover room.
Trump went further to call Clinton as “crooked as a three-dollar bill”.
“I’m putting up money to run my campaign. When you see that Clinton, crooked Hillary, crooked — she’s crooked as a three-dollar bill, let me tell ya. She is crooked,” he said.
“Hillary Clinton is weak and she is ineffective and there is no way you can allow four more years of this stuff to go on. There’s just no way in my opinion,” he said.
