Govt considering census in March or April 2017, SC told

The federal government in line with the directives issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) is considering the population census either during the month of March or April next year.

The government in response submitted in the Supreme Court was of the view that services of the army were required in order to carry out census in the country but at present the army was involved in battling terrorists in Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The government stated that the Military Operation Directorate shall review the availability of the army troops in December. The matter of having census in the country is being dealt by the Council of Common Interests (CCI), it further stated.

The government hinted that the census may take place either in March or April 2017. In the case of the availability of the army, the federal government shall suggest an appropriate date to the CCI for carrying out census in the country.
