12 killed as Karachi-bound bus collides with truck

At least 12 people were killed in a collision between a speeding coach and a truck early Tuesday near the Thermal Power Station in Jamshoro district.

Rescue sources said women and children were among more than 24 travelers who were injured in the incident, and the death toll was expected to rise.

The bus was travelling towards Karachi from Dera Ismail Khan when it met the accident on Indus Highway near Petaro. The speeding bus rammed into a stationary truck. Police said the accident was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely destroyed. Some of the injured were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad. Earlier, at least two people were reported dead and 21 wounded after a passenger bus overturned on the National Highway near Ghotki.
