The two victims identified as Ghulam Nabi and Muhammad Nabi were travelling in a rickshaw in Sariab area when unknown gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, killing them on the spot.

According to doctors, the victims were shot in the head and chest.

Sectarian violence has claimed thousands of lives in the country over the past decade. Many of the worst atrocities have taken place in the southwestern province of Balochistan, home to some 200,000 Shias.

Balochistan has long been targeted by militants and has been the scene of several attacks against the Hazara Shia community in previous years.

Separatists demanding more autonomy and control over gas and mineral resources have also frequently targeted security forces, although there has been this year after a security clampdown.
