ECP’s campaign to include new voters in electoral rolls begins today

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will start its campaign to include the names of new Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) holders in the electoral rolls from today (Monday) August 1 across the country.

During the campaign, voters who have become disqualified (deaths/cancelled CNICs) will also be excluded from the rolls after their door-to-door verification process, said a spokesman of the ECP.

According to him, door-to-door verification will be carried out from August 1 to August 15, 2016 which will be followed by 21 days of display process starting from August 21, he said.

For the purpose, verifying officials will visit the permanent addresses of the new CNIC holders for their verification, the spokesman added.

Simultaneously, door-to-door verification of all the deceased voters will also be carried out for deletion of said voters.

After door-to-door verification the lists will be displayed at designated display centers and offices of district election commissioners, registration officers and assistant registration officers for public inspection, he added.

List of display centers with contact details will be shared with media and published on ECP’s official website soon.

A mass media campaign has been planned for the event where voters will be requested to check the status of their vote by sending their CNIC number to 8300 via SMS. Applications for enrolment, transfer, correction and deletion of votes can be submitted on prescribed forms at designated display centers and offices of district election commissioners, registration officers and assistant registration officers.

The ECP has issued instructions to all the provincial election commissioners, regional election commissioners, district election commissioners, NADRA and others to complete all the pre-requisites of the revision process at the earliest.

The voter count is expected to increase from 93 million to 97-98 million after the revision process is completed, he added.

It was also decided that effective monitoring will also be carried out during the campaign.
