Bid to smuggle gold, foreign currency foiled

Customs officials on Monday foiled a bid to smuggle abroad more than two kilogrammes of gold and foreign currency worth Rs 310,000 at the Jinnah International Airport.

A Customs official said that during search operation, 2.35 kilogrammes of gold worth Rs 1.6 million along with foreign currency worth Rs 3,142,000 were recovered from the bags of three passengers who came to the airport for going abroad. The suspected passengers were arrested.

The recovered gold and money was seized under the Customs Act 1969 and an FIR was lodged for further investigation.
