Around 13 PIA employees have been arrested at the Lahore airport for their alleged involvement in smuggling heroin to Dubai.
PIA Spokesperson Daniyal Gillani said on Monday that some employees of the national flag-carrier have been arrested for their alleged involvement in smuggling the drug and if charges against them are proven, stern action would be taken against them.
While a PIA flight was about to take off for Dubai from the Allama Iqbal Airport on July 30 when the Anti Narcotics Force got a tip off that a huge quantity of heroine was being smuggled to Dubai.
The ANF team found 6 kilograms of heroin worth over Rs 60 million from the plane. The ANF suspected that the heroin could not reach the plane without the involvement of the crew members and other staff.
A joint team of the PIA vigilance, ANF and Customs has taken 13 PIA employees into custody for investigation. The PIA spokesperson said that a suspected person was also offloaded from the plane before it was allowed to fly to Dubai three hours late
