Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has vowed to improve governance, eliminate menace of corruption and terrorism and resolve the problems of people.
Talking to media on Sunday after visiting the mausoleums of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, the chief minister thanked the people of Sindh for supporting the PPP and assured that the government would address their problems. Accompanied by Nisar Khoro and other party leaders, the chief minister laid floral wreaths at the graves of ZA Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, Nusrat Bhutto and other members of Bhutto family and offered fateha for the departed souls.
He said challenges were many but he was confident that with the support of opposition, they would reach the destination. He said the overall law and order situation in Sindh was much better today than it was eight years ago which was a success of former chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. To a question, the chief minister said he was not in favour of protocol but security could not be dispensed with.
Shah said that action would be taken against criminals wherever they are and the menace of terrorism will be eliminated. He said benefits of Operation Zarb-e-Azab would not be fully derived until the capacity of police is strengthened and enhanced. He said the police will have to be prepared to confront criminals and terrorists.
He said there was an impression of more corruption in Sindh than other provinces which he denied. He said the corruption existed even before the creation of Pakistan but he assured that it would not be allowed in future.
The chief minister said he would work with all his cabinet colleagues to address the people’s problems.
Answering another question, Syed Murad Ali Shah said that schedule for elections of mayors, deputy mayors, and chairmen of local governments had been announced and assured that they would get due powers to address the problems of the masses. He said the issue of extension of powers of the Rangers would be settled very soon.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister House spokesman had said on Saturday that the chief minister would consult his cabinet about the extension in the special policing powers of Sindh Rangers and their stay in the province
The spokesman had said the chief minister had not yet taken any decision regarding a summary pending with him seeking extension in the special policing powers of the Sindh Rangers in Karachi under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
“News reports making the rounds that the new Sindh CM has signed the summary to this effect are not true,” said the spokesman.
Later talking to newsmen after visiting the Mazar-e-Quaid along with his cabinet members, Murad Ali Shah shad aid the issue of delegating special policing powers to the Sindh Rangers would be resolved soon.
The maiden meeting of the new cabinet was held late on Saturday evening with Syed Murad Ali Shah in the chair but as such the special powers issue was not discussed, said the spokesman.
The chief minister said former chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had done some work on the summary.
Replying to a question, he had lauded the services and sacrifices rendered by the Sindh Rangers and condemned the attack on them in Larkana.
