Campaign against quackery to begin from next month

The provincial health department has decided to launch a comprehensive drive to root out quackery. The campaign will start from August and it will continue till 10th August in Karachi city.

While talking to PPI, Director Health Services, Karachi, Dr Shakoor Abbasi, said the administration of health services had decided to launch 10-day vigorous drive against quackery across the city.

He said although action against quacks continued throughout the year but the health service had decided to launch vagarious drive against such elements like previous year.

He said quacks and non-registered hakeems could not be allowed to play with human lives and health, and the elements involved in this heinous trade in the name of medicine deserved no leniency.

He said necessary directives will be issued to all district health officers of the city for launching drive against quacks within two days after devising an effective strategy for this purpose.

He said strict action will be taken quacks, unregistered hakeems, illegal dental and medical clinics and maternity homes operating across the city. He said illegal private hospitals, dental clinics, medical clinics and maternity homes were major source of various lethal diseases; therefore, this 10-day drive in the city will help to root out quackery.

He appealed the media to play its role in educating people about taking care of themselves and discouraging quacks and other elements responsible for spreading diseases in the society.
