After Udta Punjab, Indian filmmakers should be thanking Anurag Kashyap and his team as they fought persistently against the Indian Censor board.

Not so long back, the director fought against the CBFC to release his then upcoming film Udta Punjab, a drug-themed flick, without any cuts or censorship. After a long, gruelling battle, he emerged victorious – with the High Court ruling in his favour and asking the CBFC to release the film with only one cut.

His struggle set a fruitful example not only for him but now, because of him, the Indian Information and Broadcasting Ministry is making changes to the guidelines for filmmakers.

According to India Today, a lot of paper scratching going on and old rules being chucked into the bin as the government rehashes the laws.

For starters, words in the guideline that couldn’t be used in films are being discarded. Instead, directors are required to follow the free speech guidelines as per the Indian Constitution.

Furthermore, neither the Examining Committee nor Reviewing Committee can advise deletion, removal, of a dialogue or scene for obtaining a ‘U’ certificate.

These are just a few of the guidelines that are being put together; good work Anurag, the film fraternity definitely owes him big time.
