US State Department Spokesperson John Kirby voiced concerns over the use of pellet guns by the Indian security forces against Kashmiri protestors in the Indian-held Kashmir.

While briefing the newsmen in Washington the other day, John Kirby said, “We are concerned by the violence in Kashmir and added that the US encourages all sides to make efforts towards finding a peaceful solution to this.”

He further added that Kashmir issue can only be resolved through dialogue.

Answering a question regarding human rights violations in India, John Kirby said that the US is obviously concerned about reports of rising intolerance and violence against minorities in India.

He further said, “We are in close touch with our Indian counterparts in New Delhi and urge the government to do everything in its power to protect minorities.”

John Kirby, while answering yet another question, said that the US has encouraged and we will continue to strongly encourage the Government of Pakistan to treat Afghan migrants in accordance with international humanitarian principles. The US also recognises Pakistan’s genuine concerns and its right to undertaken appropriate measures to enforce its immigration laws, he said.
