Police on Thursday arrested a man for killing his niece in the name of ‘honour’ in Mansehra district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
According to reports, police carried out an intelligence-based raid during the early hours on Thursday and arrested Khan Muhammad for killing his niece named Misbah Bibi.
Soon after his arrest, police produced him before a local court where magistrate granted a two-day physical remand to him.
Misbah Bibi, a 9th-grade student, left her home for half an hour on Wednesday afternoon for an unknown reason. However, her uncle Khan Muhammad suspected she went to meet her alleged boyfriend from the same village, the police said.
Muhammad, after beating and strangling her to death, escaped from the village, police sources added.
Muhammad and his family initially tried to make the killing appear as suicide; however, post-mortem examination and torture marks of the victim revealed she was strangled to death.
According to the doctor who carried out Misbah’s post-mortem examination, her body carried marks of torture which suggested she had been mercilessly beaten to death.
