The arrested leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Member Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Muhammad Abdur Rauf Siddiqui, on Friday attended the sitting of Sindh Assembly on production order of the speaker.

Siddiqui was brought to the assembly on production orders of Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani. He was arrested on 19th July 2016 from the premises of Anti-Terrorism Court after his interim bails was cancelled by the judge. He had been facing charges of asking Dr Asim Hussain, the PPP leader and close aide of Asif Ali Zardari, to treat the militants belonging to the MQM at two branches of Ziauddin Hospital, owned by Dr Asim.

While congratulating Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Syed Murad Ali Shah who was elected as leader of the house, Siddiqui thanked the Speaker of Sindh Assembly for making arrangements for his attendance in the special sitting of the house. “Though it is my right to attend the assembly’s sitting being an elected representative, I still am very thankful to you for allowing me to be here and witness today’s sitting. I am pleasantly surprised with this act,” Siddiqui told Speaker Durrani. “This is the beauty of democracy and this type of things happens only in PPP’s government,” the speaker replied.

Siddiqui demanded of the newly-elected chief minister to ensure rule of justice in the province. “If you are able to provide justice to the people of the province, your name will be remembered forever.” He urged the CM to keep education and justice on his top priority since these are the basic rights of the people.
