India should provide Kashmiris basic right of self-determination: Pervaiz Rashid

Information and Broadcasting Minister Pervaiz Rashid has said that Pakistan is committed to providing moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people.

Addressing a seminar on Kashmir on Thursday, he said Pakistan is a party to Kashmir issue and it is our responsibility to fight the Kashmir case in the world.  He said India should provide Kashmiris their basic right of self-determination.

He said the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is effectively highlighting the Kashmir issue at the international fora.

He said PM Sharif has offered more sacrifices for the cause of Kashmir than any other leader.  He said he was made victim for bringing Kashmir dispute close to its resolution in 1999.  He said dictatorship always ignored the Kashmir issue.

He said Nawaz Sharif is a real representative of people’s aspirations on Kashmir.  He said commitment with Kashmiris will be strengthened in the days to come.

He said PM Sharif in his speech at the United Nations drew the attention of the world body to its unimplemented resolutions on the issue.

Rashid said the present government is working to strengthen Pakistan by improving the economy, countering terrorism and overcoming energy shortage. He said a strong Pakistan can fight the Kashmir case more efficiently.

He said with the measures taken by the government, economy has improved and foreign exchange reserves have reached a record level of 23 billion dollars. The credit goes to this government for initiating the process to eliminate terrorism from the country, he added.
