ECP seeks written reply of Capt Safdar till August 9

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday sought a written reply from Member of National Assembly (MNA) Captain (R) Mohammad Safdar till August 9, for concealing assets of his wife, in his nomination papers.

A five-member bench of the ECP, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Sardar Ahmed Raza Khan conducted the proceedings of the plea filed by Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Nawabzada Salahuddin for disqualification of Safdar.

During the course hearing, counsel for PTI apprised the bench that Capt Safdar had not mentioned the ownership of foreign properties of his wife in his nomination papers

He prayed the ECP’s bench to disqualify Capt Safdar from the seat of National Assembly.

Capt Safdar counsel Senator Nehal Hashmi argued that this petition cannot be heard as all allegations leveled on his client are not true. He asked the bench to dismiss the plea on non-production of evidence.
