Police have released a minor boy who was to be married to a 22-year-old woman, a day after he was taken into custody.
Shorkot Cantonment police had raided the ceremony in Kamalia, detaining the 10-year-old would-be groom, Ali Sher, along with the Nikah registrar, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir.
However, the parents of the groom and 22-year-old would-be bride managed to flee from the scene along with the guests.
The police have booked Hafiz Tahir and released the minor boy.
A case has been registered against Tahir and the girl’s father under the Punjab Child Marriage Act.
