All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Secretary General Dr Muhammad Amjad slammed charges of former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf’s involvement in the May 12, 2007 incidents.

The APML secretary general was talking to the party leaders on Thursday where they expressed displeasure over government’s efforts in connecting Musharraf with the incidents of May 12, 2007.

He said that the present government setup is suffering from ‘Musharraf phobia’ and it is an easy task and target for them to hold APML chief General Musharraf responsible for everything wrong in this country.

Unfortunately, this reflects their state of mind when they try to put all their mess under the carpet and divert public attention from major issues, he said.

Dr Amjad said that Musharraf was a respectable head of state and he never ordered for shooting innocent people. He condemns this trend of leveling false allegations just for political gains, he said.

Those, connecting Musharraf with May 12, 2007 incident, should also talk about the Model Town killings and the people responsible for them.

The APML chairman cherishes a vast public support and Pakistani people like him. His political opponent is afraid that Musharraf being allowed to motivate the public can expose their inabilities, Dr Amjad said.

He said the real face of General Musharraf’s political opponent is now clearly exposed with rampant poverty, lawlessness, terrorism, international debts and Pakistan’s isolation in the whole world. Pakistani people understand that they need a person like General Musharraf to tackle these complex issues, he added.

General Musharraf during his tenure, elevated Pakistan’s stature in community of the world and with a political forward march, he will once again regain public support to make Pakistan prosperous, Dr Amjad said.

The APML secretary general said that the APML chief has no link with May 12, 2007 incident and if cases are to be formed on such grounds then APML demands nomination of Prime Minster Mian Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif in the Model Town incident where innocent protestors, including women and children lost their lives at the hands of Punjab Police.
