The four newly appointed members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) took oath of their offices in Islamabad on Wednesday morning.

The appointed ECP members include Justice (r) Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi from Punjab, Justice (r) Irshad Qaiser from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Justice (r) Shakeel Ahmed Baloch from Balochistan and Abdul Ghaffar Soomro from Sindh.

Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza administered oath to the newly elected members of the commission. With the appointment of four new members, the composition of the ECP is complete.

After oath taking by the new members, they were briefed about the functioning of the ECP and the challenges it faces to conduct free, fair and transparent elections.

The immediate task before the ECP is now to hold by-elections against the vacant NA/PA seats and election of mayors and deputy mayors of the local governments.
