Says MPAs duty is legislation, development work will only be performed by local representatives; MPAs to not receive any funds from now on

Presenting a 13-point charter highlighting improved legislation and other development works in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan challenged chief ministers of Punjab as well as Sindh to take the same steps as those taken in KP.

The PTI chairman claimed that the things his party is planning in the KP would make it a role model for the whole of Pakistan.

Speaking at a press conference along with KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, he claimed that the PTI-led government succeeded in bringing a remarkable change in the province despite being in power for the first time.

The PTI chairman said that the KP government has taken a number of initiatives to empower the institutions.

He said that despite having no law so far to this effect, Pervez Khattak never interfered in bureaucracy and police, adding that the CM should be praised for devolving the powers to the grassroots level.

KP GOVT’S REFORMS:

“We are going to pass a Police Act/Order 2016 to legally cover the de-politicisation of police,” he vowed.

Reiterating his confidence in the KP chief minister, Imran Khan said that Pervez Khattak would not be standing next to him if he did not have confidence in him.

Talking about Madrassah reforms, The PTI chief recalled that these reforms failed in the Musharraf era too. However, Imran said he was happy that the PTI had signed an MoU with the Madrassah Haqqania, details of which will be made public soon.

“It is part of our manifesto to integrate the Madrassahs into the mainstream and to reorient them towards modern education,” he added.

Imran Khan vowed that the lower judiciary would be reformed so that the issues faced by the people can be resolved quickly.

He said the PTI believes in meritocracy; hence, all the hiring will be done via NTS across the board in the province.

Imran Khan pledged that the CM House and Speaker’s House at Nathiya Gali will also be given to Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) and put up for rent.

“From now on the CM House Peshawar will be open to use by the investors and the highest taxpayers,” he announced.

Imran Khan said that a whistleblower protection law is going to be implemented and he or she will get 25% share of the recovered money.

“A new Ehtisab commission law will be passed from the assembly soon, which will be more powerful than the previous one,” he added.

Imran Khan said corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the lowest among the provinces, according to the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) survey.

MPAS TO RECEIVE NO DEVELOPMENT FUNDS:

“Assembly members’ duty is legislation; development work will only be performed by local representatives and no political interference will be tolerated in this regard,” he added.

He categorically stated that no development funds will be given to the MPAs from now on, as funds will only be distributed on a district’s needs basis and not based on discretion.

He said that development funds for members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have been halted and that these will only be allotted to local administrators.

Imran said that local administration will be provided Rs 33 billion of development funds.

“KP hospitals are being brought under an independent board system,” he maintained, adding that exemplary hospitals were now being constructed in the province. He said that KP is making the highest investments in schools compared to provinces.

He said the number of teachers and the attendance in KP schools has witnessed a remarkable improvement, adding that 40,000 new teachers will be inducted.

Talking about the Panama Leaks, Imran Khan said that the nation will not let go of the issue and that they will keep asking for answers.

“I ask Nawaz Sharif, he has just now recalled the loans that people have taken after the Panama Leaks for blackmailing purposes?” he added.

‘NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO VIOLATE THE PARTY’S DISCIPLINE’:

About the party’s rebels, the PTI chairman said that no one will be allowed to violate rules and principles, as the party is going to launch a movement for accountability.

He said that there were two MNAs who violated the party rules and regulations, and that he was constituting a committee to investigate the matter.

He warned that strict action will be taken against anyone who violates the party’s discipline.

‘BE NICE TO AFGHAN REFUGEES’:

About the Afghan refugees, Imran said he knew that the people of KP have sacrificed a lot and have also been hospitable to the immigrants. He said a committee under Rustam Sham Mehmand will be formed to make sure no injustice is done to Afghan immigrants.

“I want to say that no one wants to leave their homes and neither do the Afghan immigrants,” he added.

He said that there is an impression that the crime rate is increasing due to Afghan immigrants. The PTI chairman said that the Afghan immigrants are present in the country as guests and should not be subjected to any abuse.
