World Hepatitis Day is observed across the globe on July 28th to raise awareness about the harmful disease. Even though 10 million people are affected by hepatitis in Pakistan, the day goes unnoticed here. According to some experts, Pakistan is included among the countries with the highest prevalence of hepatitis C – second only to Egypt. The treatments involved result in the deaths of around 3,000 Pakistanis on a daily basis. Beside this, WHO estimated that across the world more than 400 million people living with hepatitis B and C and 1.4 million die every year. The hepatitis can be prevented through awareness and services that improve vaccinations, blood and injection, safety and reduce harm. Unfortunately the day is misused in the country and nothing is being done which is causing thousands of deaths each year.
