Peshawar to have mass transit by November: KP CM

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said that the KP government will formally inaugurate mass transit in Peshawar in the month of November and directed the quarter concerned to fulfill all the requirements in this regard.

He expressed these views while presiding over a cabinet meeting at Peshawar Civil Secretariat on Tuesday.

The cabinet approved the Mass Transit Authority (MTA) to be chaired by the chief minister and co-chaired by the transport minister while the additional chief secretary, transport and finance secretaries, three other members from the society with one female and technical experts will be other members of the authority.

The authority would oversee the functions and regularity aspects of the authority. The chief minister asked the local government to send its recommendations, if any. The cabinet formally approved the establishment of the MTA. A fleet of hundred buses would be inducted to ease out vehicular traffic in Peshawar.

The chief minister directed the department to start working paper to immediately put on ground the planned project.

He also directed to prepare a base line for the construction of sport complexes. However, he said that there should be comprehensive leasing formula with ten year increase annually. He directed Akbar Ayub to sit with the chief secretary and prepare comprehensive policy guidelines so that next cabinet meeting could approve it for future course of action. The lease period can be increased from the earlier 15 years to a more flexible approach of 33 years.

The chief minister further directed to have a grievance redressal mechanism by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (KPPRA).
