The Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) completed another micro hydropower station of 150 KV at Shahidas Shandor Road in Upper Chitral.
Pakistan Army’s Malakand Division General Officer Commanding (GOC) Major General Asif Ghafoor was chief guest on the occasion and inaugurated the newly completed hydro power house.
Speaking on the occasion, SRSP District Program Manager Tariq Ahmad said that they are working on power generation in Chitral and at present, some 25 hydropower houses are under completion in different remote valleys of Chitral where there is no electricity from Wapda.
He said that this powerhouse having capacity of 150 KV will benefit 384 consumers. It has been built at a cost of Rs 29 million and the share of local community was worth Rs 0.8 million who provided free land for this purpose.
It has two water tankers with 2,800 feet long water channel and this power house will bring a revolution in the development of the valley, he said.
Major Ghafoor highly hailed the efforts of SRSP for providing electricity in remote areas of Malakand Division. He announced the construction of a bridge on nullah in the area. He also assured the establishment of handicraft centre for women.
