The Supreme Court (SC) has suspended a non-bailable warrant of model Ayyan Ali until September 21 in a customs inspector murder case.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Amir Hani heard the case during which Ayyan’s lawyer Latif Khosa told the court that when customs officer Ijaz Afzal was murdered, Ayyan Ali was in jail.
He said that Ayyan’s life is in danger as miscreants can also kill her like Qandeel Baloch.
The judge said that the judiciary cannot interfere in the investigation process as a proper case was lodged against the model but the accused can apply for pre-arrest bail.
While talking to media, Latif Khosa said that the officials had changed legal policies in case of Ayyan which is condemnable. He also said that Ayyan was taken to different courts for the bail.
Earlier, the court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant of the fashion model, Ayyan Ali in customs inspector Ijaz Chaudhry’s murder case.
The case was heard on a plea filed by late Ijaz’s wife at Waris Khan Police Station who alleged that her husband was murdered to ‘protect’ Ali in money laundering case.
Customs authorities had nabbed Ali at Benazir International Airport in March last year as she tried to smuggle at least $506,800 to the United Arab Emirates.
Inspector Ijaz, reportedly, was the official in-charge who confiscated the money. According to slain inspector’s wife, her husband was made to pay the price for not succumbing to the pressure.
Inspector Ijaz was shot in legs and was admitted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital.
Ijaz’s brother, Chaudhry Riaz Afzal was told that his condition was stable and the operation had been successful.
However, after the medics had a ‘chat’ with few customs officials, Afzal was instructed to arrange blood and the next day the victim was dead.
Ayyan Ali is fighting the money laundering case and her name has been repeatedly put and omitted from the Exit Control List since last year.
Recently, she was allowed to leave the country by Supreme Court however, she was again barred at the airport and she hasn’t left the country since then.
