Eight dead in Lahore, Attock road mishaps

At least four people died and three others were injured when a crane hit motorcycles and rickshaws on the under-construction Orange Line project on Sunday.

Rescue sources said that a crane engaged in development work of Orange Line project got out of control of the driver and hit motorcycles and rickshaws in Daroghawala locality of the provincial capital Lahore. Four people died on the spot in the accident, while three others were critically injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The crane driver responsible for the accident managed to flee from the scene.

A strong protest demonstration attended by more than 200 people was held against the incident. The protestors alleged the administration of the Orange Line project for helping the driver to flee. They demanded the chief minister and other authorities concerned for taking notice of the incident and directing stern action against the responsible. After being assured by the police to arrest the culprit and legal action against him, the demonstrators dispersed peacefully.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif taking notice of the incident has ordered the concerned authorities for an immediate arrest of the driver.

In Attock, at least four people were killed and seven were injured when a trailer hit a passenger van near Bahatir Interchange.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital in Hassanabdal.
