Authorities resume anti-encroachment drive on Gujjar Nullah

The local administration resumed the operation to clear encroachments on Gujjar Nullah in Karachi on Monday.

Around 10,000 illegal houses will be demolished during the operation, an official said.

The residents, including women and children in large number protested against the move. However, the police managed to disperse them within a few minutes.

District Central Deputy Commissioner Captain (r) Fariduddin Mustafa stated that the 13 kilometres long Gujjar Nullah starts from Haji Mureed Goth and ends in North Karachi’s Sector J-11.

Reportedly, the drain was 210 feet wide but its width has been reduced to only five feet at many locations due to the encroachments.

After the anti-encroachment drive, the authorities will make the nullah 60 feet wide and will build a 10 feet wide road on both sides.
