A petition was filed in Lahore High Court the other day seeking registration of a terrorism case against the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi holding him responsible for the genocide of Kashmiris.

Petitioner-lawyer Rana Abdul Hameed submitted that since July 9 Indian forces had shot dead at least 45 people in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK). He said that thousands had come out to protest and mourn the death of Burhan Muzaffar Wani, a young commander of Kashmir’s largest rebel group Hizbul Mujahideen.

Wani had been killed in a shootout with Indian forces in a forested village in Kokernag area, south-east of Srinagar.

He said a major grievance of those protesting in the IHK was the failure of Indian authorities to respect basic human rights of Kashmiris.

He said Indian forces had resorted to using of violent tactics and disproportionate force against unarmed civilian population in the region. The petitioner said that as head of the Indian government Narendra Modi was responsible for the killings and violence in the IHK by Indian armed forces.

He requested the court to issue directions to authorities concerned to proceed against Indian PM on charges of murder, attempted murder and abetment of murder under the Pakistan Penal Code and Section-7 of the Anti-terrorism Act.
