The customs officials foiled a major bid to smuggle cell phones at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) while arresting four alleged smugglers.

On a tip-off, the customs officials conducted snap checking of luggage of four passengers and seized over 1,500 cell phones from their possession on Saturday.

The four passengers had arrived Islamabad from Dubai on a private airline, said an airport official on condition of anonymity.

The smugglers were identified as Faisal and Waqas hailing from Karachi, whereas Abdullah and Aziz-ur-Rehman were from Kohat.

The accused were arrested and shifted to jail for further investigations.
