Illegal slums: FIA court to decide on bail plea of absconding CDA man

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) court will decide on July 27 about the interim bail of Sohail Jamil Chohan, an absconding assistant director (AD) of CDA in Kachchi Abadi case.

Under the orders of Supreme Court (SC), FIA had registered a case against 42 officers and staff members of CDA for facilitating construction of Kachchi Abadis. CDA had later suspended all these officers and subordinate staffers.

FIA sources said two among these officers were declared innocent and were discharged from the case. The legal action was taken against the remaining 38 officers and staff members and they were arrested and sent to jail. They were released from the jails on a bail.

Two officers were declared proclaimed offenders. One among them was Sohail Jamil Chohan.

Well-placed sources from CDA said FIA deliberately avoided arresting Sohail Jamil Chohan and certain officers of CDA and removed the orders of his suspension from the office and paved the way for his appointment in parliament lodges. Owing to this, Chohan is receiving additional salaries due to National Assembly and Senate sessions.

Chohan approached the FIA court and the learned judge insisted why he had not come there earlier in connection with his bail. “How was he appointed in parliament lodges despite his nomination in the case and suspension from the service?” the judge questioned.

The accused could not give a satisfactory reply to the court. The court summoned him again along with CDA record on July 27 to decide on his bail plea.
