The situation in Indian-held Kashmir can take a turn for the worse with the Hizbul Mujahideen proliferating posters proclaiming its reinstitution in the wake of BurhanWani’s killing, Hindustan Times reported on Saturday.

The posters feature combat-ready fighters wielding Kalashnikovs. A poster carried on the website of Kashmir Reader declared that the men “would continue to challenge the enemy.”

Experts likened the poster to a photograph of Wani and his accomplices, taken two years ago on the occasion of them taking up arms against India. Since then, the viral photo has come to epitomise the latest iteration of the armed struggle, featuring educated youngsters who increasingly take to social media and haveno fear of being identified. “The Burhan picture was full of life, the boys appeared stylishand suave. More than anything, they looked happy and convinced about what they were doing. This poster lacks that,’’ police told Hindustan Times.

Hum jang yeh jaari rakhein gay, kuffar ko hum lulkarein gay, hum ley ke rahein gay haqapna, dunya ko batta ker dum leing gay,” the aforementioned poster reads. Wani’s killing triggered marked unrest, leaving dozens dead and approximately 2,000 injured in the occupied territory bedevilled by violence.
