An anti-terrorism court on Saturday issued notices to the complainant and special public prosecutor of Anees Qaimkhani’s bail petition.

The court stated it was appellate court’s jurisdiction to grant the bail.

The Qaimkhani’s counsel said that his client was a politician and he spent many a times in the past for unjust reasons. The authorities were digging up 15-year-old cases now, he said, adding that Qaimkhani had no links with terrorists.

He had not been arrested in any terror case, rather police had nabbing him in other cases, he said. The court adjourned the hearing until July 27 and issued notices to respondents.

On the other hand, Abdul Qadir Patel’s counsel, Qadir Khan Mandokhel pleaded the court to grant B-class prison to his client and provide medical facilities. Patel is a former member of the National Assembly and he should be given B-class, he urged the court, also stating that he suffered from high blood pressure and backache.

Accused in former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain’s terror facilitation case, Qaimkhani, PPP’s Patel, MQM’s mayoral candidate Waseem Akhtar and Rauf Siddique were denied extension in interim bails by the ATC this week and they were detained. The accused have filed bail pleas in the court but none of them was entertained until Saturday. They are accused of requesting Dr Asim to provide medical treatment and shelter to terrorists and target killers in his hospital – Dr Ziauddin Hospital. The former petroleum minister had named them in the case during interrogation before the joint investigation team.
