Three reports of standing committees presented in Senate

As many as three reports of various standing committees, including Commerce and National Food Security and Research were presented in the Senate on Friday.

The reports were presented by Standing Committee on Commerce Chairman Syed Shibli Faraz and by Mohsin Laghari on behalf of National Food Security and Research Chairman Syed Muzafar Hussain Shah.

The reports included budgetary allocation and its utilisation by the Ministry of Commerce, its allied departments and special report for the period from May 2015 to May 2016 and proposed conversion of 1400 acres land of National Agriculture Research Centre (NARC) by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) into residential/commercial plots.

Speaking in the House, Laghari said the CDA is misleading the committee on the issue. On one hand, the CDA council in the apex court submitted that a summery has been forwarded to the chairman for withdrawal of case while on the other hand, as per the report submitted to the standing committee, the CDA has adhered to its earlier stance.

He said that there is contradiction in stance of the CDA on the NARC land.

The Senate chairman took strong notice of the matter and referred it to committee of the whole for breaching the privilege of the House.
