Special Assistant to Prime Minister and Board of Investment Chairman Dr Miftah Ismail said on Thursday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s victory in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is a victory for democracy and for the past two years, the party has consistently won by-elections all over Pakistan.

Talking to Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami on his talk show DNA on Channel 24, he said it is about time the entire Pakistan unified and took a strong position on the Indian oppression in Jammu and Kashmir.

“India calls itself ‘world’s largest democracy’ but then goes on to blind children with pellets, clamps down on social media, and shuts down newspapers. In this day and age, this is simply unacceptable. The country needs to unite and bring the world’s attention towards the carnage being caused by India,” Ismail said while talking about the recent wave of violence in Indian-held Kashmir.

Ismail said that the PML-N has been working on a number of power projects in order to get rid of load shedding by 2018 and the security situation in the country has also stabilised. The economy is also steadily improving, he said and added that the opposition parties are well aware of all these factors and don’t want the PML-N to complete its five-year term.

Ismail rubbished the rumours of pre-poll rigging in AJK elections and said, “The majority of people in Pakistan are poor. If we don’t think about their well-being, they will simply not vote for PML-N or support Nawaz Sharif. There has to be a reason why Sharif was elected prime minister of the country on three different occasions.”
