The petition filed by central accused of Kasur child abuse case for bail has been rejected by Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday.

The case hearing was chaired by Justice Syed Shahbaz Rizvi. The accused of Kasur scandal, Tanzeel-ur-Rehman, Atiq-ur-Rehman and Saleem Sherazi adopted the stance that they had nothing to do with Kasur video scandal. They were named in the case by political opponents, while the victims did not even know them.

”Despite being innocent, we have been in jail for a year which is against the rule of law. Therefore, we should be granted bail,” they pleaded to the court.

The prosecutor gave arguments that the matter of the accused was held in abeyance in trial court, therefore bail of the accused should be approved. However, the LHC rejected the plea after hearing arguments.

22 cases were registered after the surfacing of the shocking scandal which nominated 18 accused, out of which 17 had been arrested. The scandal was widely condemned by religious, political and social figures as well as by the general public.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif also formed a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the matter.
