MQM is in Rangers’ crosshairs again, says MQM leader

MQM leader Salman Baloch said on Wednesday that it is hard to understand what crime the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has committed because neither its leaders are safe anymore nor are its workers.

Talking to Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami on his talk show DNA on Channel 24, he said that being a patriotic party MQM’s only sin perhaps is the love of the country.

“A person came all the way from London to attend his court hearing and then he gets nabbed,” Baloch said following the arrest of MQM’s Waseem Akhtar, adding, “Even the law itself is restricted and there are different measures of justice for different strata of the society.”

Talking about Dr Asim’s case, he said, “We believe that even when it comes to Dr Asim, there is injustice happening. He has explicitly said in the court that he is not aware of the JIT that was formed. According to him, the content of the FIR is not something he said either. Even his daughter has given a statement in the court that their hospital was occupied and counterfeit bills were made there. The FIR included the names that were mentioned in these bills.”

On a question about the Karachi operation of the Rangers, he said, “We feel that this operation is being carried out to crush the MQM and we are increasingly being pushed against the wall. Rangers have done some excellent work too, but to crush a patriotic party like the MQM is condemnable and is beyond the constitution and law.”
