The Supreme Court Wednesday issued notices to the Attorney General of Pakistan and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and sought replies over miscellaneous application filed by Asma Jehangir in media commission implementation case.

A division bench of the court, comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Gulzar Ahmed, heard the case.

During the course of proceedings, Chairman PEMRA Absar Alam appeared before the court and submitted report regarding airing of 10 percent public service messages on the electronic media.

The court expressed dissatisfaction over the report and asked the PEMRA not to shift its burden to courts.

PEMRA Chairman Absar Alam told the court that they had issued notices to electronic media channels over airing public service messages.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed asked the chairman the percentage breakout of how many minutes each channel runs public service messages.

Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that the Federation had not submitted reply regarding steps taken for protection of journalists.

Additional Attorney General Aamir Rehman told the court that it had ordered to submit replies on the applications of Shakeel

Turabi and Yaseen Azad, however, the reply could not be prepared.

He pleaded the court to grant some time for submission of reply.

Later, hearing of the case was adjourned for an indefinite period.
