The operational control of the Gwadar port has been handed over to China for 40 years and the timeline has been started since 2007. The port will become fully operational by 2030 and it will create one million jobs – most of which will go to the locals.
This information was shared with the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reforms. Abdul Majeed Khan Khanan Khail chaired the meeting held to discuss the CPEC and PSDP projects initiated for the development of Gwadar.
The meeting was informed that Gwadar port is the main focus of the multi-billion-dollar CPEC project.
The additional secretary of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms informed the committee that the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) Amendment Bill, 2010 would be vetted and finalised within 20 days by the Ministry of Law and Justice.
Furthermore, the new site has been allotted and payment made to the Gwadar deputy commissioner for the construction of 132KV (AIS) Grid Station at Deep Sea Gwadar port and the associated 132KV D/C transmission line.
MNAs Syed Muhammad Athar Hussain Shah Gillani, Dr Abdullah, Shaheen Shafiq, Shazia Farid, Ehsan-ur-Rehman Mazari, Mrs.Shamas-un-Nisa, Junaid Akbar, Qaiser Jamal, Sheikh Salahuddin, Asyia Nasir, Sher Akber Khan and Iftikhar-ud-Din attended the meeting; besides officials of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms and Ministry of Water and Power.
