The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday sought report from the Punjab government, district administration and capital city police officer (CCPO) over holding of protests on Mall Road in violation of its earlier orders.
Justice Sajid Mahmood Sethi conducted the hearing of the case in which the plaintiff’s lawyer submitted that in 2012, the court had imposed a ban on protests on Mall Road, but the legal order has not yet been implemented.
He contended that the local administration had attempted contempt of court by allowing political and other parties to stage protest demonstrations on Mall Road.
During the hearing, the chief traffic officer (CTO) also recorded his statement. He said the district government had given permission for rallies on Mall Road after which the court directed the senior officials to submit a report on the matter. Later, the court adjourned the hearing till August 1.
