Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervez Khattak announced a comprehensive package for Karak District that included the construction of a university, establishment of oil refinery and various schemes in different sectors to eradicate the sense of deprivation among the people of the district.

Khattak came hard against the corrupt practices, favouritism and nepotism, saying that anything proved illegal against anybody, how influential he might be, would be punished, so that nobody commits such illegal acts in future.

He was addressing a 50-member representative delegation of Karak District led by its Nazim Dr Umar in the Chief Minister House on Tuesday. Prominent leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Karak Advocate Jan Alam announced quitting JUI and joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the occasion.  Provincial Minister for Law Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi, MPAs Gul Sahib Khan, Zareen Zia and Peshawar District Nazim Arbab Asim were also present at the occasion.

Welcoming Advocate Alam to the fold of PTI, the chief minister said that his government is working on one-point agenda to provide justice to all and give people transparent governance. His government strengthened public sector institutions, eliminated political interference and made them responsive to the public expectation, he said. Khattak asked to compare his governance to those of the past. His government had a lot of challenges but it brought reforms in different sectors, including health, education, police and Patwar Khana.

Khattak underlined the need of a corruption-free system in the province so that resources could be used for public welfare. He said it is for the first time in the history of our country that powers and resources are devolved to the grass root level. Now it is up to the district councils to efficiently use these resources and deliver according to the expectations of people, he said, adding that sanitation and cleanliness would have to be done by the Tehsil councils.

The chief minister said that he would not rest until he brings a change in the life of the poor. He called upon the elected representatives and district administration to supplement the government efforts initiated for public welfare, as his government is accountable to the public and it has been voted by the people to change their destiny.
