Around 600 low-ranked officers of the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have been demoted in the wake of the Supreme Court’s (SC) orders on out-of-turn promotions.

However, no action has been taken against the high ranking officers, reflecting a policy of discrimination, Pakistan Today has learnt reliably.

A well-placed source in the ITP told this scribe, requesting anonymity, that the discrimination has badly affected the morale of the low ranks who feel that they have been axed while the officers of the privilege classes have not been affected. The implication over the SC’s verdict on out-of-turn promotions have not been realised over upper ranks (DSP and above) in the ITP, the source said.

The source further said that different delaying tactics are being used to delay the implementation of the verdict on upper ranks and added that the police promotions should be regulated according to merit and seniority.

According to ITP spokesperson, a file has been sent to the chief commissioner naming four DSPs. The ITP is following the procedure and is determined to perform its duties honestly, he said.
